Afraid to Shine your Light? Time to meet your Golden Shadow.

“The impetus that makes you fly is our great human possession. Everybody has it. It is the feeling of being linked with the roots of power, but one soon becomes afraid of this feeling. That is why most people shed their wings and prefer to walk and obey the law.” (Hermann Hesse, Demian)

I’ve always admired those who fearlessly shine their inner light regardless of the feedback, comments, criticism or praise. Who can adorn their wings without worry, who can dance like no one is watching, that can materialise their dreams and through trial and tribulation make no apologies for who they are!

Oh, those light-bringers we do love to hate them don’t we and with that jealous, if used correctly, it can show us where our greatest inspiration lies. We’ve all at one point or another had those moments where we say “why them and not me?”. Well, dear reader let me introduce you to the “Golden Shadow” and why and how you can be just like “them”. What we admire in another also resides within us

What is the Golden Shadow?

Many of you reading this may be familiar with the Jungian term “shadow”. The parts of our psyche that the ego likes to lock away in a darkened room. In recent years shadow work has become very popular, but what I feel lacks a little attention is our “Golden Shadow”. Now I have a theory, as this deep thinking Scorpio writer part always has! (Shit I called myself a writer and a thinker, golden shadow example in action!). The golden shadow is spoken about less because it’s accessed less, a deep truth hidden in plain sight.

So what is this elusive golden shadow right under our noses?  It’s all the aspects of us that we are too afraid to share, the parts of us that play small because playing big is F**king scary as hell, it’s the creative inner child that wants to play but is afraid what their friends might think, it’s the hidden gifts we can’t believe ‘little old me’ has and most importantly, it’s what the world needs most from you. It’s what the divine encoded in your DNA, and I want to share with you a few ways you can decode this inner treasure.

Get your King or Queen Stance ON

Right, let’s start with the physical how do you stand? How do you walk? A King or Queen stands tall, head high, shoulders back and certainly never eyes down into a mind-control device in hand. Now you may think she’s right they do, I watched them on the British taxpayer wedding a few years back, but I’m no King or Queen. Yes, you are, you are sovereign, you are royal. However, your royal jewels are not stolen from India they are gifted from the divine and in your golden shadow of magic. A King or Queen is who you TRULY are once you learn how to program the commands into your seat of power, or should I say throne of power!… your consciousness.

To re-program your consciousness your intentions should be mirrored into every reality or plane of existence. So if your intention is to access your power (Golden Shadow) intend to embrace ALL aspects- physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Stand tall, proud and rooted like an oak tree and when you feel like an acorn remind yourself you grow into that tree. The more grounded you are the more light you will omit. Why? Because you are making a statement to the universe that you deserve your place on earth and that you will stand your ground and earth your light.

Work with your Inner Critic.

Now if you haven’t been shining like a human disco ball chances are you’ve got a pretty big inner critic. If it’s anything like my own or the clients I work with your inner critic will affirm to you that “everything is your fault” in fact, it can probably tie the troubles in the Middle East back to you! If that doesn’t work, then it starts with the “you’re not good enough” record. If that breaks, it will often match its victims into the “prison of what people think”. Now, depending on how strong your commitment is to inner work depends on how long you will serve. In the UK, we have an old saying for when someone goes to prison, we say “they are serving under her majesty’s pleasure.” Make of that what you will, but one thing is for sure your inner royalty does not want you in that prison! Free your mind and the rest will follow- En Vogue (sometime in the 90’s)

So now you know what that debilitating voice is it’s time to listen to it. An old boss of mine who was a very wise man once told me you “catch more bee’s with honey than vinegar.’ If you want to make your inner landscape into the land of milk and honey, you’ll need to save some honey for the inner critic. What I mean by this is that you are going to need the curiosity and courage to explore this aspect of yourself,  it’s job, its purpose and intentions. You’ll need to work with it and transmute it into a non-extreme role, a role where it will play a more conscious and beneficial expression. I’ve witnessed some great transformation from critics to inner coaches, project managers, team leaders and encouragers. When you really inner-stand your parts or shadow aspects, you’ll come to the awareness that some of your shadow aspects transform into some of your greatest ‘inner superheroes’.

Walking the Path of the Fool

They say it takes 10,000 hours to master something, as time is our greatest currency, it would make sense that in exchange for our time we get better at something. Now, no master is without mistakes. What is hidden when we admire those with the shiny golden shadow is; all the mistakes, the sweat, the tears, the blood and the internal battles. We see the brilliant polished product, and in a fast-food culture, we think we can replicate this instantly. This is especially seen in the enlightenment scene, hug my guru and all your karma will be removed or sleep with my guru and you too can have instance enlightenment! Take this, smoke this, drink this and all your intentions will be manifested. Truth is, if you want anything in life, including enlightenment you are going to need to make some sacrifices. One of those sacrifices that needs to be made is to be humble enough to walk the path of the fool. To be honest with where you are, to be a student and stalker of your parts, patterns and programs and to makes these 3p’s work for you and not against you so that you can integrate your golden shadow to ignite your inner flame.

To Feel is to be Alive.

Whenever we witness these light-bringers, one thing you’ll notice is there are feelings and meanings behind whatever they are engaged in. They bring art into living motion through their expression of humanness and divinity. Almost like they have transported you into their imagination, a connection to their soul and a story they wish to be told. As humans, we love stories it’s how we learn, it’s how we pass knowledge down and most importantly it’s how we connect. That, in essence, is what the golden shadow is about- it is a connected unconsciousness light that runs through a golden thread in us all. Now, back to the radical honesty, will you abandon your thread into a pile in the darkened room in your head or will you weave your golden thread into the masterpiece tapestry of your life?

May it be the later.
